A1.1 is a course designed for complete beginners. Students will learn to introduce themselves and others using essential French vocabulary. After starting with basics: the alphabet, numbers, students will use authentic materials from the French-speaking world to learn basic phrases. You will soon be able to ask and answer basic questions about yourself and others, including likes and dislikes!
The focus in this class is particularly on listening and speaking skills, with some practice in reading and writing.

A1.4
A1.4 is designed for students who have completed A1.3. Students in this class will learn to make purchases and describe cities. Additionally, they will begin to speak in the future and past tenses to talk about events at various points in their lives. By the end of the class, you will be able to present a recipe from your childhood.
False beginners coming into this class should be comfortable with speaking in the present tense about themselves, their family and friends, and their hobbies. They should be comfortable with the verbs avoir and être, and should be able to speak for approximately 30-45 seconds at a time.

A2 Conversation
This course is designed to encourage A1.3 to A2.4 level students to converse. If you would like to significantly advance your speaking skills or feel you are lacking confidence in oral expression, this is the class for you. Fun activities will be planned including role playing, presentations, discussions, games, etc. There will be a focus on pronunciation and grammar.

Fast Track A1.1/A1.2
Our Fast-Track courses allow students to go through two classes -- A1.1 and A1.2 in a single session. Students meet twice a week to improve their French. At this level, students will learn to introduce and describe themselves and others, talk about their families and homes, express their likes, dislikes and hobbies. You will also be able to interact with others in French, and learn more about a variety of places in the French-speaking world.

This 5-week course is designed for false beginners (those who have taken some French but may not remember much) who are preparing to travel to a French-speaking country in the near future. The focus of the course is on needed language tools needed for travel. Students will be taught to introduce themselves, understand and ask for directions, order from a restaurant menu, purchase items, etc.

This course is designed to encourage A1.3 to A2.4 level students to converse. before moving to the next level.
In A2 review, students will examine major topics of A2 language. This includes a lengthier discussion on passé composé and imparfait and
appropriate tense shifting within a narrative. Students will also work on improving variety in their descriptive language using adverbs,
prepositions, object and relative pronouns, and more.
Pace: 2.5 hours over 11 weeks
A2.1
A2.1 is for students who have completed A1.4 or finished approximately 100 hours of French study. If you are new to AF Denver, please take a placement test before registering for this class. The A2 level moves student from basic French towards the ability to describe the world around them. In this class, students will use authentic documents to explore the shopping and health habits in French-speaking cultures, and then to describe their own. By the of the class, you will be able to describe an illness that you have, in the unfortunate event you have to go to the doctor in France!
Note that there is NO class on Monday Labor Day.

By the end of the class, you will be able to describe your favorite cultural dishes (maybe even learn about new favorites!) and talk about your experiences with sports.

By the end of the class, you will be able to talk about your passions, do a book critic, create a trip narrative and a vacation guide in French.

Develop your ability to express yourself fluently and spontaneously. Strengthen and broaden your vocabulary; gain the ability to choose the appropriate expressions when introducing comments and expressing ideas; learn to produce clear, well-structured discourse. The objective at the C1 level is to become an independent user of the French language.
In this class, oral and written expression occur through activities and tasks achieved individually or collectively. C1.4 will cover chapters 4 and 5 of Cosmopolite 5. In each chapter, the themes and issues discussed (through literature, the arts, cinema, customs and traditions) will enrich your knowledge of French and Francophone cultures.
