A1.1

Foundation

A1.1 is a course designed for complete beginners. Students will learn to introduce themselves and others using essential French vocabulary. After starting with basics: the alphabet, numbers, students will use authentic materials from the French-speaking world to learn basic phrases. You will soon be able to ask and answer basic questions about yourself and others, including likes and dislikes! 

The focus in this class is particularly on listening and speaking skills, with some practice in reading and writing.

In this course, students will use authentic videos, interviews, infographics and more to learn about francophone cultures and how to speak about families and the homes where they live. By the end of the class, you will be able to describe the people in the family and the home where you live.  

False beginners coming into this class should be comfortable introducing themselves (name, age, and profession), using the verbs etre and avoir. They should be able to ask basic questions and say things they like and dislike.

You will become more comfortable using past and future tenses and begin giving your opinions on arts and culture. 

False beginners coming into this class should be comfortable introducing themselves, their friends, and their family (name, age, and some basic description), using the verbs etre and avoir, and –er verbs. They should be able to ask basic questions and say things they like and dislike and talk about their activities and hobbies.

Conversation

This course is designed to encourage Upper Beginner level students to converse. Each week, the instructor will choose a different theme and present authentic reading and listening materials to assist in generating discussion. Fun activities will be planned including role playing, presentations, discussions, games, designed to improve your grammar, vocabulary and overall fluency.

A2.1

Foundation

A2.1 is for students who have completed A1.4 or finished approximately 100 hours of French study. The  A2 level moves student from basic French to get through the everyday, towards the ability to describe the world around them. In this class, students will use authentic documents to explore the shopping and health habits in French-speaking cultures, and then to describe their own. By the of the class, you will be able to describe an illness that you have, in the unfortunate event you have to go to the doctor in France!

In this course, students will examine some of the most popular topics in French study: food and sports. By the end of the class, you will be able to describe your favorite cultural dishes (maybe eve learn about new favorites!) and talk about your experiences with sports.

Atelier DELF B1+: écriture

Specialty Language Classes
This course is designed for students planning on taking the December 2024 DELF/DALF exams. In this class, students will review the writing tasks for the B1, B2, and C1 DELF exams. Students will practice short and long forms of the tasks, and get feedback in preparation for the exam.

This is not a grammar class, but grammar topics may be discussed if the instructor notices a need across students.

This course is for students who have completed A2.4, or approximately 180-200 hours of French lessons. During this class, students will talk about their cultural roots and memories, and traditions and stories in the francophone world. Conversation
In this conversational course B1/B2 level students will read & discuss a variety of topics, learn new vocabulary, and immerse themselves in different cultural aspects of the Francophone world. Through a variety of activities, including discussions and presentations, students will improve their grammar, vocabulary and overall fluency.

For students interested in developing French business language skills. This workshop focuses on business vocabulary and know-how based on specific business situations. We will explore how to introduce yourself in a professional setting, participate in French business meetings, practice formal writing, phone etiquette, and touch up on public speaking, negotiations and commercial communications. Each class includes oral and written practice. Students should have a minimum B1 level and above, This is a 6 week class.

From the literal translation to “break the crust” (as in breaking bread), the Casse-Croûte is a light meal shared between friends, colleagues, and family; a French version of a brown-bag lunch. Join us for a lively conversation based on current events/magazine articles/news, etc. related to your level of French. Conversations will be facilitated by the teacher who will prepare something different for each session. No textbook needed for this class.

This class is taught entirely in French

Foundation

Develop your ability to express yourself fluently and spontaneously.  Strengthen and broaden your vocabulary; gain the ability to choose the appropriate expressions when introducing comments and expressing ideas; learn to produce clear, well-structured discourse.  The objective at the C1 level is to become an independent user of the French language.  

In this class, oral and written expression occur through activities and tasks achieved individually or collectively. C1.2 will cover chapters 3 and 4 of Cosmopolite 5.  In each chapter, the themes and issues discussed (through literature, the arts, cinema, customs and traditions) will enrich your knowledge of French and Francophone cultures.
